I love chimichangas. I'm not sure I love eating them as much as I love saying the Word: chimichanga. It kind of rolls off of your tongue like "Denny Crane" rolls off of William Shatner's tongue on "Boston Legal." Try saying it: chimichanga. See what I mean?
But when I go to a Mexican restaurant, I usually don't order a chimichanga. I tend to stick with chicken enchiladas or carne guisada.
It makes me wonder if we have the same love of God. We love singing the songs, raising our hands, and hanging out with other Christians, but do we really love God.
Jesus said, "If you love me, you will obey what I command." (John 14:5). Strong. Clear. Direct.
So, if we gather for our warm fuzzies, and walk out the door ignoring his commands, do we love Jesus? What does it mean when we "Amen" the preacher and then gossip and backbite? When we fail to show practical compassion? When we are hateful to entire people groups?
Hmmm...
I think I'll go have a chimichanga.

Thank God that He is forgiving and compassionate. It's really not easy to be what we are supposed to be, but I think if we trust Him and keep running the race, we will not have to eat chimichangas.
(notice how when you pluralize that word it become "gas")
LOL. Great insight with humor. Love it.
Great insight Dr. Y .... I like chimichungas also but they are VERY fattening ... but that can be an analogy too ... the way some Christians are today ... sitting in a pew saying "feed me ... feed me", geeting totally stuffed but not getting the exercise of the race? So there they sit ... bloated and ineffectual?
I personally have been seeking the Lord ... to increase my PASSION for Him. I believe PASSION brings obedience. And obedience is hard. Obedience to walk out the church doors after getting all charged up and refusing to go back to my "default" nature when life hits me in the face.
Rebecca,
Your comments reminded me of a story by an old friend of mine. In our next blog I'll share.
I too love good food. Any good food...pumpkin pie, ice cream, turkey, steak, ....shall I go on?
I noticed the scriptures tell us that we are COMMANDED to obey IF
we really love him. How interesting is that? It's not just a good idea or great advice, it is a COMMAND. Like in the army. That takes real discipline, or as I like to think of it...being down right stubborn about being obedient. It's really hard, but we have to REMEMBER DAILY to do everything we know to do that is righteous. I'm hungry.
BYE. GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU!!!
Excellent message!
